Actuary expert highlights risks on drawdown products

Financial planners have been warned to be vigilant when advising on income drawdown, as leading actuary Adrian Waddingham predicted a wave of mis-selling claims.

Waddingham, a partner and expert witness at Barnett Waddingham, told the PFS conference he had already seen some claims for drawdown mis-selling and he anticipated there would be more in the wake of recent stock market turbulence.

Mr Waddingham, who has acted as an expert witness in a number of court cases, stated that even the most unlikely of candidates claimed to have no individual investment experience, leading to judges often finding in their favour.

Advisers should watch out for claim chasers and those looking to make opportunistic claims.
